Although, after a period of development, the types of carbon additives have been increasing continuously, and different carbon additives have different characteristics and are applied in different fields. Low-nitrogen carbon additive, as one of many carbon additives, has also won the recognition of many users with its own advantages. So, what are the functions of low-nitrogen carbon additives? When it comes to the smelting of synthetic cast iron by adding more than 50-60% of scrap steel in an induction furnace, the greater the amount of scrap steel added, the higher the nitrogen content in the molten iron. Since the harmful elements such as titanium, lead and antimony in the molten iron of synthetic cast iron are very low, low-nitrogen carburizing agents should be used. If the nitrogen content of the carburizer is relatively high, the synthetic nitrogen content will cause nitrogen porosity in the castings.
On the contrary, if high-nitrogen carburizing agents are used, due to the very low titanium content in the molten iron, it is impossible to consume a large amount of nitrogen with Ti, which makes the castings prone to nitrogen pores, fissured nitrogen pores or related defects due to excessive nitrogen content. If the quality of the carburizer is poor, it will cause significant losses. It is particularly emphasized that in the smelting of synthetic cast iron, the key lies in using high-quality calcined petroleum coke with low nitrogen content.
